The Centre for Advanced Research (CARe) was established in 2013 in response to calls by His Majesty Sultan Hj Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah, the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam and Chancellor of UBD at the 25th UBD Convocation Ceremony. In his Titah, His Majesty highlighted the crucial roles the Centre will play with regard to developing impactful research on national issues, as well as to building international recognition for the university.

The objectives of CARe include:

• To identify and develop research areas relevant to public policy that will make significant contributions to the well-being of        the citizens of Brunei;

• To produce research that can contribute to public policy;

• To develop longitudinal, comparative datasets in niche areas such as social indicators, family, ageing, health, youth, poverty,      crime, and other areas relevant to Brunei;

• To serve as a data resource centre in areas concerning societal aspects of the country;

• To establish network and engage in collaborative research projects with reputable, local and international, research centres;

• To design, develop and provide training to graduate students, university staff and research personnel from the public and            private sectors.
