Professor Aris Ananta

Aris Ananta is currently Eminent Visiting Professor at Centre for Advanced Research, Universiti Brunei Darussalam. He has been Professor in Population Economics at the Faculty of Economics and Business, Universitas Indonesia since 1995. He has also been Adjunct Researcher at the Demographic Institute, Faculty of Economics, Universitas Indonesia since 2017. Earlier, he was Senior Fellow at the Department of Economics, National University of Singapore (1999-2000); Senior Research Fellow at the Institute of Southeast Asian Studies, Singapore (2001-2014); and Associate Faculty at the Master  Programme on Gerontology, Singapore University of Social Science  (2018-2020). He was the President of Asian Population Association (2019-2021). As an economist-demographer with a multidisciplinary approach, his research areas include welfare-poverty and social justice, population ageing, population mobility, health, employment, ethnicity, and family demography. Initially, he focused his work on Indonesia, but later he also worked on Southeast Asia and Asia. Maintaining his core expertise in Indonesia and interest in Southeast Asia and Asia,  he is also currently working on Brunei in the area of socio-economic development, poverty, social welfare, employment, and population ageing.
